Rick Muliang Chang (張慕良), was born in Shanghai, China in the spring of 1934. He was the youngest son of Hong Xun Chang, a prominent businessman, and Wen Yu Chu, a beauty of her time. Growing up in Shanghai, Rick experienced the Pearl of the Orient to its fullest. Starting from an early age, Rick’s love for adventure came through his interaction with all levels of the Shanghai society. He learned to ballroom dance in the famous Ciro’s Club and had friends in every corner of the city.
In the early 1960s, Rick obtained his western medical doctor degree from Zhejian Chinese Medical University. After graduation, Rick met the love of his life, Katherine; they married in the fall of 1962.
Within a year, their first daughter, Lorraine, was born to the proud parents. Seven years later, their second daughter, Yvonne, came along and rounded out the family.
In 1980, Rick and his family immigrated to the United States and settled in West Los Angeles, California. Because he wanted to take care of his wife and two young daughters immediately, Rick relinquished his western medicine in lieu of an acupuncturist license. He opened an acupuncture clinic in Hollywood where he practiced eastern medicine for 20+ years. Rick had many patients that looked up to him as he was their healer, their confidant, and their friend.
After retirement, Rick and Katherine moved to Irvine where their two daughters and families settled. Rick passed onto his next adventure in the morning of November 22, 2021. He is survived by his beloved wife Katherine, his darling daughters Lorraine and Yvonne with husband Kevin, and his precious granddaughter, Ashley.
