RIP Ruth Charlene (Cain) Bryson, born 30 August 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio, where she grew up with her father Charles, mother Margaret, brother Arthur, sister Lois, and dog Woofie. She graduated valedictorian from Rhodes High School, Cleveland in 1946, honor from University of Redlands, CA in 1953.
Wed her husband of 68 years, Ray Auldon Bryson, on 7 June 1953 (graduation day from U of R).
Ruth moved with her family to Pasadena, CA ca. 1949. After college she moved to Berkeley, CA,
to accompany her husband as he attended seminary, and bore her first son, Richard Alan, in 1956.
From there they moved to Patterson, Idaho for a year, then to Spokane, Washington where Ruth bore her daughter, Kathryn Ruth. They moved to Westminster, CA in 1960 and had their second son, Randal Arthur, then lived next door in Garden Grove from 1960 through 1964 before moving to Laguna Beach where she and Ray resided for the next 56 years.
After they both took falls at their Laguna Beach house, they moved to assisted living in Escondido, CA,
in 2021, where Ray died in 2022. Mom shortly thereafter moved to a board and care in Escondido,
from February 2023 until her passing on 9 September 2024.
While Ruth worked several different part-time jobs both in college and throughout her family years –
as bank teller, social worker, laundromat employee, Christmas wrapper at Bullocks, and bookkeeper –
she is primarily remembered and loved most being a mom to her three children and later as grandmother and finally as G-G-Mom (great grandmother).
Ruth also enjoyed making up the living models at the Pageant of the Masters at the Laguna Beach Art Festival of Arts Grounds. She and Ray served faithfully in various roles during their fifty-plus year tenure as members of South Shores [Baptist] Church in Laguna Niguel (now Dana Point), where their three children were baptized. And she was an avid Agatha Christie fan.
Ruth was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, sister, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and pets. She is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
