Sandy was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on May 18, 1948. She was the eldest of 3 sisters raised by Dorothy and Gordon Evanson. The family moved to California in 1950 and to Bellflower in 1954 where all three sisters grew up.
Sandy was an avid reader and a straight A student in school. Her intellectual achievement and striving for excellence were acknowledged in school and became trademarks of Sandy's drive and determination. Upon graduation from Downey High School, they provided the cornerstones in both the raising of her family and her success in business.
Sandy loved her family and relished family life. She married and had a daughter, Tonya, and six years later a son, Brandon. She married Norm Parmley in 1976 and together they raised a blended family including Tonya, Brandon, Kim and Chris. She modeled high standards for her 4 children, and was so very proud of each one of them. Sandy also had 7 grandchildren - Kayla, Brad, Derek, Chasyn, Tyler, Kynsee, and Olivia. As with her children, her grandchildren were the light of her life and each benefitted greatly from her advice and guidance.
Sandy also loved the business world and proved that hard work and dedication would open doors. She began her career shortly after graduation in the aerospace industry during the exciting time of sending a man to the moon. During this time she gained valuable experience in human resources and organizational management.
She later moved to a creative design firm. Once her children and grandchildren were well established and with the death of her husband in 2000, she threw all her energies into Battaglia, Inc., and became a major force as Executive Vice President, providing executive oversight to design and construction of major complexes around the world, including not only North America, but the Middle East, Asia, and South America. Her success in business is particularly impressive given where women were in the business world in 1966. She was throughout her career a positive role model to all, but especially women, in a male-dominant environment.
Sandy was widely respected in her endeavors to be exacting in her everyday work product, and in teaching others her business philosophy, encouraging them to strive for excellence and making a difference. She was a joy to be around and always strove to have fun with all.
She will be sorely missed by family, friends, and business colleagues.
