It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the sudden passing of Scott Howard Bailey, of Newport Coast on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at the age of 63. Scott was born in Bristol, Bucks County, PA, and was one of four siblings to the late Howard and Shirley Bailey of Langhorne, PA.
Scott graduated from Neshaminy Maple Point High School in 1978 where he participated in football and wrestling. He received his Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1982 and worked 34 years in various capacities in the Petroleum industry, most notably as the Manager for the Oil Production/Subsidence Bureau for the Gas and Oil Operations Department at the City of Long Beach, CA before retiring in 2016.
Since childhood, Scott had a passion for treasure hunting, which ultimately led him on the path to his life’s career. As a young man in his 20’s, he started his own treasure salvage company. Scott and his partner, along with various investors and salvage enthusiasts, discovered treasures from various shipwrecks off the coast of Florida. This enthusiasm for finding treasure never waned. You could find him burying coins on “treasure island” in the cul-de-sac outside his house for the neighborhood kids to dig up. He never shared that he was the one who buried these treasures. When visiting the family cabin in Los Osos, CA, he would spend hours researching old maps of the local terrain for potential sites of bygone treasures to be discovered. In retirement, he found a passion he shared with his loving wife, finding the treasure of sea glass amongst the sands at Crystal Cove State Beach and other beautiful California shores. However, his biggest passion was the love of his family and Christ. Whether driving his family to Crystal Cove State Beach in the “Big Red Jeep”, coaching or cheering from the sidelines at his sons’ sports events, relaxing and hanging out at the cabin in Los Osos, date nights with the love of his life, or worshiping the Lord at Mariner’s Church, Scott always cherished every moment he had with his family.
His dedication to his family and strong belief in Christ will be remembered and cherished by all.
He is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his wife: Beth Bailey; children: Daniel Bailey and Aaron Bailey; and his siblings: Lianne Pfeiffer (Douglas Pfeiffer), Bethann Rinkus (Bob Rinkus) and Sherry Bailey.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Mariners Church in the Chapel located at 5001 Newport Coast Dr., Irvine, CA 92603 on Thursday, August 17. All are welcome to join the family at 10:30 am for a time of Prayer and Reflection with Scott’s Life Celebration commencing at 11:00 am. Please feel free to come dressed casual.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Scott Bailey’s memory to Mariners Church-Kids Ministry.
