

Tom graduated from Culver Military Academy, Indiana, earned his BA from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine in 1951 and served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He received his MBA in 1957 from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California before relocating to Laguna Beach where he met his beloved wife, Tanya Seely Casey (1929-1996). He remained in the Newport Beach/Corona del Mar/Newport Coast, California area until his passing. The father of eight children, Tom and his family set off for the adventure of a lifetime, traveling the globe from 1961 until 1964, spending long, happy periods in Barcelona, Spain, and Salzburg, Austria. Upon his return home, Tom began his career with First American Trust Company, where he rose to become its President and Director. During this time he earned his CFSC from Northwestern University's National Graduate Trust School. He loved skiing, golfing, snorkeling, reading and continued to travel, making his last journey to Chile and Antarctica two months before he died. Throughout his lifetime Tom's civic affiliations were long standing and abundant. He served as Executive Director, Hoag Hospital Foundation; Trustee and Overseer, Bowdoin College; Trustee, Stanford Business School Trust; Benefactor, Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities; Trustee and President, Newport-Mesa Unified School District; Founder, Friends of UCI Foundation; Director, Newport Center Association; President, Orange County Alzheimer's Association; Member, Big Canyon Country Club Finance, House, and Tournament Committees; Director, Orange County Bar Foundation; and Director, California Banker's Association, among others. Upon his retirement from First American Trust Company in 1995, he continued to work as a registered investment advisor in private practice and did so as he'd planned, until his death.
Tom is survived by his wife of 21 years, Suzy; his children, Tate Stanley (Susan), Douglas Chicle (Kathy), Gary Lee, Bradley Wallace, Nina Casey Takei (Tom), Mimi Casey Burns, and Thomas W.; grandchildren, Marie Boggs, Tate Clark, Tamara Pierce, Ronald, Bryan, Bridget, Jonathan, Gunnar, Austin, Sean, Tamy, Emma Burns, Irish Burns, Tommy, Kathryn, Caroline, and Christopher; his great-grandchildren, Veronica, Timothy, Clark, Alice, Geoffrey, Ollie, Joey, and Chloe; Suzy's daughters, Megan Penhoet and Cathy Henney; and is predeceased by his son, John Steven Casey.
His upbeat nature, adventurous spirit, generosity, and sterling commitment to community will be missed deeply.
Services will be held at Pacific View Memorial in Corona del Mar on Friday, February 23rd at 2:00pm.
