She was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on November 29, 1924 to John and Olza Pfaff. She was their last remaining child. She was preceded by her younger brother, David, who had a military career.
Mother often commented what a wonderful childhood she had. She was surrounded by a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents who frequently got together for good food and fellowship. Her mother had four sisters and one brother. The sisters were known as the “Anderson Girls” (even when they were grown women) throughout the town. They enjoyed each other’s company and held high expectations of their offspring. The traditions continue to this day of how the “Anderson girls” would have done it and if they would approve.
Mother was a popular high school beauty and then attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. She met our father, John Louis Bunker (“Johnny”) from Los Angeles, California at a university sorority dance for servicemen while he was in town training for the military. It was love at first sight and they corresponded throughout the war, finally marrying on December 28, 1945. My brother, Stephen Louis Bunker, was born on October 11, 1946 and I, Carolyn Bunker Hutchins, “Cissy”, came along on December 5, 1950. Our younger sister, Lisa Anderson Scavone, was born June 23, 1959. We lived in Iowa City, Memphis and eventually settled in Glendale, California.
Mother was a wonderful homemaker and a great hostess. She was friendly to all who knew her. She eventually learned to drive the freeways and spread her wings. She was a member of the Glendale United Methodist Church, National Charity League of Glendale and several other social/philanthropic organizations. She participated in all our school and outside activities with great enthusiasm. Mother was a talented interior designer and started her own business when they moved to Niguel Shores. Wanda Bunker Interiors thrived in Monarch Beach, California. She was dearly loved by her many friends and family and always seemed to find a “southern” friend wherever she went that “spoke her language”.
She was preceded by our father, John Louis Bunker who passed away on July 11, 1991. She is survived by her children, Steve (and his wife, Candy Bunker), and her daughters Carolyn Bunker Hutchins (her husband, Torrance Fiske Hutchins) and Lisa Anderson Scavone. She is also survived by her grandchildren including Steve’s sons Cale Stephen Bunker (and his wife Jen), and Jesse Sage Bunker (and his wife Heather). Carolyn’s daughter Dr. Ashley Anderson Hales (her husband Rev. Bryce Allan Hales). Lisa’s daughter Kathryn Theresa Pitts (her husband Daniel Pitts). Finally, many great-grandchildren to include Cale and Jen’s daughter Raven, Jesse and Heather’s son Stephen Cale, and Bryce and Ashley’s children Ezra Chalmers Hales (8), Anderson Porter Hales (almost 7), Camden Pax Hales (4), and Harriet Susan Joy Hales (2).

We are grateful to the Lord for giving us our Mother for such a long time and especially for calling her home in His time.
