

June 5, 1926 - May 31, 2016 Wellington "Bill" Folsom Bonner, Jr., 89, of Newport Beach, CA, died May 31, 2016. Bill was born June 5, 1926 in Los Angeles, CA, to Wellington Folsom and Martha Spangler Bonner. He attended LA High School and graduated from UCLA with a Business Administration degree and was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Bill served in WWII when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944. He was deployed to the Pacific Theater where he participated in securing the island of Iwo Jima and subsequently survived the Okinawa Typhoon. Bill met his wife, Margaret "Peg" Newgard Bonner, in 1956 and were married April 5, 1957 in Beverly Hills, CA. They have four children; Brynne, Alissa, Martha and Trey. Bill enjoyed boating in Catalina aboard his boat the Blue Heaven as a member of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club, timber farming on his ranch in Oregon, traveling,and being with his family. Bill is survived by his wife, Peg Bonner, daughter and son-in-law, Brynne and Mark Thompson, daughter, Alissa Bonner, daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Chuck Howell, and son and daughter-in-law, Trey and Lacy Bonner, as well as 10 grandchildren. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Thursday June 9th.
