February 29, 1928 ~ September 2, 2013
The eighth bell has rung for Bill Moore indicating the end of his watch. He touched and impacted many lives along his journey ~ in more ways then he could have ever imagined.
Born on February 29, 1928, in Roanoke, Virginia, William Taylor (Bill) Moore grew up in Detroit, Michigan. Immediately after high school graduation, he voluntarily joined the United States Air Force. After serving four years, he attended Michigan State University where he graduated with a B.A. in Business in 1951. He met the love of his life, Eunie, at MSU and they married in 1950. After a second tour of duty in the military, this time in the Army, he returned to Michigan and worked for the City of Detroit, then Chrysler Corporation (both in Detroit and southern Italy). Upon their return from southern Italy, the Moore family moved to southern California where he worked for Lockheed Propulsion, and then Personnel Assist. He finished his career as the Manager of Compensation and Employee Benefits for Santa Fe International and retired in 1987. In parallel to his professional career, he continued to serve in the Army Reserves and retired from the Army as a Major.
Bill wore many hats for many different people: husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, US Army Major, mentor, role model and friend, to name just a few. He volunteered for church activities, homowner's groups, the Saddleback Hospital Thrift Shop, and was the local coordinator of AARP Tax Counseling for the Elderly for several years. He also served as the Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 451 in Fountain Valley. While battling his illnesses, he participated in multiple studies to further Alzheimer's research, in hopes of accelerating the finding of a cure for this debilitating disease.
For those of us close to him, he opened our eyes to some of the wonders of the world. He supported our dreams and ambitions which include school, sailboats, wineries and vineyards. He taught us to love and respect people, the outdoors (hiking and camping), the ocean (sailing, body surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving) and most importantly, to love and respect ourselves. Through his words and actions, he taught all of us to believe in ourselves, trust in our abilities and leave the world a better place because of our actions.
He will be dearly missed, but we know that he will always be with us and those that he touched, keeping our sails filled and helping us steer a proper course as we navigate our way into the future.
Bill was preceded in death by his son, Michael. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eunie; daughter, Cindy; son, Christopher; daughter-in-law, Maureen; grandchildren: James, Ruth, Rose, Olivia, Makenna and Taylor; great-grandchildren: Jules, Jade and Jemma; and sister, Jane.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made either to the Imagine More fund or your favorite charity.
