Abel De Leon Muñoz, age 70, was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on September 3, 1951 to Abelardo Munoz Sr. and Piedad De Leon Munoz. He was second of five rambunctious Munoz boys: Abelardo Jr., Alejandro (deceased) (Carmen), Albert (Greg), and Arthuro (Judy).
Abel was a compassionate, generous person who was a friend to the least of these. He had a wonderful sense of humor, the soul of a young child, hands that could fix anything, a mind that taught others, the smoothest pair of dancing shoes, and the pride and strength of a United States Marine.
He was an avid sports fan, cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, golfing, dancing, and spending time with his family.
The amount of friends Abel had is absolutely innumerable and the love he had for all, immeasurable. Moreover the love he had for his sons Abel Jr. and Michael Munoz, his step-children, Anthony (Margaret) Cantu and Calina Berger, his grandchildren, Abel "Trey" Munoz III and Carter Matthew Berger, the mother of his children Dora Mallet, and finally the love of his life Molly is unparalleled.
A proud United State Marine Corpsman he pledged his time marching faithfully alongside St. Michael the Archangel and devotedly served his country. While serving he earned Rifle Expert Badge (5th Award), Meritorious Mast Medal, Good Conduct Medal (w/1 star), Certificate of Appreciation, and National Defense Service Medal.
Continuing his service, he devoted his time to honor his fellow veterans as a member of the American GI Forum of Texas and American Legion Post 364.
A jack of all trades, Abel was also an Instructor at South Texas Vocational Technology helping a number of students achieve their educational and career training to become future A/C and Heating Technicians while running his own company Munoz Air Conditioning and Heating.
Abel fought a fierce battle with bone cancer and through all the tribulations that come along side he was called to be with the Lord Tuesday afternoon February 22, 2022, however through his unwavering faith we know that the cancer did not win, rather the God who has conquered death is victorious.
Though our hearts are heavy, the image of the very mouth that breathed life into him, welcomed him into his eternal home with those beautiful words, "Welcome Home My Son" alleviates our sorrow.
Visitation will take place Sunday, March 13th from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00pm the same evening. Mass be be celebrated Monday, March 14th at 11:00am at St. Patrick’s Church on Alameda. Burial will follow the mass at Coastal Bend Veterans Cemetery.
