

He was born in Burgos, Tamaulipas, Mexico, November 19, 1924 to Wenseslao Zuniga and Lucia Zuniga De La Garza. Agapito married the love of his life, Odilia Zuniga on December 4, 1951, his wife of 63 years.
Agapito was a loving and compassionate husband and father who loved and served the Lord with vigor and enthusiasm. He served the public for five decades. In 1984, Agapito transitioned to the gospel circuit where he incorporated his conjunto-style music into Christian music. He was a musical artist whose dedication in sowing God’s seeds throughout the United States and abroad was of utmost importance. Agapito was a member of The Lord Is Peace Worship Center, pastored by his son, Rev. Arnold Zuniga.
Throughout his career as a musician, Agapito received numerous accolades, some of which include: 2000-2005 Award from Christian Hispanic Music Awards for three consecutive years; 2007-Tribute and recognition held in his hometown of Burgos, Tamps., Mexico, for having delivered with inspiration the composition of “Corrido de Burgos”; 2008-Induction into the Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame & Museum; 2008-The David Music Award honoring Christian artists; 2010-Induction into the South Texas Music Walk of Fame; 2010-Dedication into the Ben F. McDonald Public Library for his contribution into the music of South Texas; 2014-Honorary degree of Doctor of Theology in Missions with Honors from Corpus Christi Theological Seminary.
Agapito is preceded in death by son, Juan Jose Zuniga; grandson, David Zuniga; and daughter, Leticia Zuniga.
He is survived by his wife, Odilia; children, Homero (Linda) Zuniga, Ludi Zuniga, Sylvia (Mario) Vargas of Houston, Texas, Rev. Arnold (Tomasita) Zuniga and Pete (Neddy) Zuniga of Indio, California; grandchildren, Homer (Anna) Zuniga Jr, Robert (Monica) Zuniga, Christina (Roland) Garcia, Lisa (Gabe) Guerra, Lori (Johnny) Saenz of San Antonio, Texas, Arnold Zuniga II, Elaine Zuniga of Austin, Texas, Edward Zuniga, Ulyssia “Jody” Zuniga of Houston, Texas, Peter Zuniga and Kristina Zuniga Ramos of Indio, California, Jacci Zuniga Bickford of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Danielle Grey and 24 great grandchildren; his sister, Guadalupe Zuniga de Coronado of Matamoros, Mexico; and his brother, Refugio Zuniga of Raymondville, Texas.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. at The Lord Is Peace Worship Center at 4730 Kostoryz Rd. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. the same evening.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at The Lord Is Peace Worship Center with interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
