Alfredo married the love of his life, Theresa, twice — first by the Justice of the Peace on May 4, 1973, and again in a church ceremony at Holy Family Church on December 7, 2003. Both weddings took place in Corpus Christi, Texas, the city they called home.
Alfredo was a dedicated employee of H-E-B, working at Store #1 for 30 years. Even after suffering a stroke on a Sunday in 1995, which left him with limited mobility, Alfredo never let it slow him down. With the unwavering support of his wife Theresa, he continued to live life to the fullest for nearly 30 more years.
He was well known and respected in the community as a football official and baseball umpire — roles he took great pride in. Sports were a big part of his life, both on and off the field. He played baseball for the Chapman Ranch Team and was a passionate Dallas Cowboys fan.
Alfredo loved traveling and making memories with his wife. Some of his favorite trips included visits to Las Vegas, Eagle Pass, Eiko, Windover, and a memorable Christmas in Mexico City. He enjoyed spending time at the Greenwood Senior Center, especially playing bingo. One of his fondest pastimes was late-night fishing trips that lasted until sunrise. He and Theresa also loved dining out together, a routine they kept even as his health declined.
Despite the challenges he faced after his stroke, Alfredo remained active and social, thanks to Theresa’s constant care and devotion. It was only in the final three months of his life that he began to slow down.
Alfredo was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Alaniz, and his stepfather, Felipe Alaniz.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Theresa; his grandsons, Jacob Olivarez Jr. and Jason Olivarez, both of San Antonio, Texas; and many friends and family who loved him dearly.
A special thank you goes to Johnny Joe Hernandez. Without Johnny’s help and generosity, Alfredo and Theresa would not have made it through the tough times. Johnny was always there — helping after falls, buying groceries, cooking meals, fixing whatever broke, and maintaining the yard. His kindness and friendship will never be forgotten.
Alfredo Lopez will be remembered for his strength, resilience, dedication, and the love he had for his family, community, and the game.
A visitation will be held on October 27, 2025, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at Funeraria Del Angel Everhart, located at 4901 Everhart Rd., Corpus Christi, TX 78411. The funeral service will follow at the same venue from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Burial will take place at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78415, from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm.
