Ascencion Morales, known lovingly as “Chon” or “Gordo,” passed away on May 19, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was 59 years old.
Born in Frankfurt, Germany on September 8, 1965, to Ascencion P. Morales and Elia H. Cano, Chon grew up in Corpus Christi, where he built a life defined by his craftsmanship, quiet strength, and his desire to provide. He was also loved and supported by his stepmother, Janita Morales.
He was a skilled tradesman who specialized in carpentry and remodeling. Known for his dedication and talent, he was often called upon for his expertise and trusted by many to bring projects to life with care and precision. His work was more than a job—it was a reflection of his character: reliable, honest, and done with heart.
Chon was a man of peace and simplicity. He enjoyed BBQs, watching sports and early morning coffee. On weekends, he took joy in browsing antique shops, local markets, and estate sales—always on the hunt for hidden treasures and unique finds. He found joy in small, meaningful moments and had a way of offering advice that stuck with you. One of his favorite sayings was, “Do whatever you want in life, but don’t complain when the consequences come—good or bad.”
He is survived by his children—Melissa, Jonathan, Crystal, Andrew, and Nathaniel Morales—as well as 12 grandchildren. He also played a meaningful role in the lives of others he helped raise and care for through the years. Though his relationships with loved ones evolved over time, the bond of family remained a constant presence. He was surrounded by love, support, and reconciliation that brought peace to his journey.
Chon is also survived by his siblings Hilda, Cynthia, Melissa, and Vanessa. His nieces and nephews adored him, and his cousins—along with their children—each carry warm memories and funny stories of the time they shared with him. He was more than just family to them—he was a friend, a role model, and someone they could count on.
