Avilo R. Soliz, known throughout life as Bill Soliz, aka to family and friends as: Tio Bil, Mr. Bill, Billy Boy, aka Avilio, was a proud golden gloves boxer in his early years, keeping up with boxing throughout the years, revving up on boxing nights with a good drink or two…or three. His life held an exemplary career as an entrepreneur, in the 70’s owning his own company, Soliz Maintenance Service, alongside his brothers, covering and serving the Circle K franchise, banks, hotels, and corporate buildings across the CC-Coastal Bend area. In his later years he supervised the engineering department at Memorial Hospital, Petroleum Tower, hotels, golf courses, and apartment complexes in Corpus Christi, outside of work, being boss, his passion was family, barbeques, classic country, and Tejano music, always known for being a sharp dresser and an exceptional country and Tejano dancer. Everyone wanted to dance with him, laugh with him, hear him tell his stories.
Avilo loved the simple life, sang daily, with a lovely vibrato, told the best dad jokes, and would always challenge anyone to jalapeno eating contests, passionately finding laughter in everything as an inclusive remedy for everyone, and everyone knew him that way.
The clank of your boots
The jingle of your key chain
The tinker at every piano and ever tuning guitars
The unique chuckle and boisterous laughter
The constant constant laughter
The love of your custom uniform
The honk every time you drove up anywhere
The daily, humorously, broken English and Spanish
The life of the party
You are “Big in the West,
You are “Big in the East,
If nobody likes it, ask Bill Soliz!” -his boxing phrase.
You were and always will be “Nothing But the Best”.
Dad, we will forever miss those captivatingly, beautiful, green eyes. The most handsome man in the room! Such a charmer. Please be there to welcome us when it is our time. Your work here is done, rest and grace that new world with all your punch!
Avilo R. Soliz, of the Soliz’s that resided, ranched and cared for the Blanche Moore property, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Nueces County, for decades (the Moore home sat closest to Everhart rd) now known as Blanche Moore Plaza. The family lived in the center of the lot, that until the early 80’s, when sold for commercial use, were crop fields that sat between Staples and Everhart Rd, off of S.P.I.D. The Soliz family, and later as the family grew, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, could be seen, working, playing, running through the fields from, what was then the main road, as passersby looked on. That Soliz family home sat where now sits Barnes and Noble. You’ll find some Soliz’s going there, from time to time, remembering and reflecting, “back in the day”. The Soliz legacy lives on. Keep them alive in your stories and hearts. Dad would love that.
Forever loved, Rest in peace.
Special thank you: Guadalupe and Jay Soliz for their spiritual guidance, love and support. Maria Paloma for her lifelong care and love for him. Nobody can take away the love he had for you. Yvonne-caregiver in his final months. Donation By: Dora for the casket rosary and pallbearer boutonnieres.
