Betty Swain Wyeth, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on June 26, 1935, to Shelby and Marion Swain in Vernal, Utah, Betty lived a life full of love, service, and dedication to her family, faith, and profession.
Betty was one of six children, growing up alongside her siblings Iris, Nick, Barbara, Diane, and Sue. She graduated from high school in Vernal, Utah, where she also worked alongside her mother as a waitress in the family-owned restaurant. Her early years were marked by hard work, a strong sense of community, and the beginnings of her lifelong commitment to helping others.
In 1953, Betty married the love of her life, John Wyeth, in Vernal Utah. Their love and commitment were further solidified when they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 17, 1955. Together, they shared 56 beautiful years of marriage before John’s passing in 2009.
Betty was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life, serving faithfully in various capacities, including as Relief Society President, Stake Relief Society President, and numerous Sunday School teaching assignments. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she joyfully shared her testimony and talents with her church community.
Betty and John raised five children together: Terry, Dru and his wife Maureen, Gregg and his wife Toni, Jennette, Margaret and her husband Rex. Her legacy lives on through her 25 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, John, in 2009, and three of her cherished grandchildren, Micah, Zachary, and Jason.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Betty pursued a career in nursing, a vocation that perfectly complemented her compassionate and nurturing nature. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Corpus Christi State University in 1986 and went on to excel in her career, working in addiction recovery and geriatrics. She found great purpose in helping others heal and thrive, retiring in 2010 after decades of dedicated service.
Betty was known for her great sense of humor and love of a good joke. She brought laughter and light to any room she entered, often using her wit to lift others’ spirits. She also had a strong sense of fairness and justice, always standing up for what was right and advocating for those in need.
After retirement, Betty moved to Arizona, where she made many dear friends and enjoyed an active life. Later, she returned to Corpus Christi, Texas, where she spent her final years surrounded by family and loved ones.
Betty will be remembered for her unwavering faith, boundless love for her family, and her commitment to serving others. Her warmth, wisdom, and kindness touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Betty Swain Wyeth will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life is a testament to faith, love, humor, and service—a true example of a life well-lived.
