December 29, 1957 – November 25, 2023
Billy Joe Tumlinson Jr., 65, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded and embraced by his loving family on November 25, 2023 after a brave and courageous battle with cancer.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Bill was born in Corpus Christi on December 29, 1957 to Billy Joe Sr. & Doris (Northcutt) Tumlinson. Bill married Andrea (Annie) Gensheimer on December 2, 2005 in Corpus Christi. Together they created a warm and welcoming home for family to gather.
He was an accomplished musician, astronomer, carpenter, marksman and traveler. He especially enjoyed family trips to the Texas Hill country and visiting his west coast family. Bill loved to discover new places and counted Alaska, the Caribbean, and his trip to Ireland and England among his most memorable travels.
As a Ray High School graduate and yearbook photographer he discovered his lifelong passion for black and white photography. After graduating, he worked for Blackwell Photography to further develop his talent. He loved going on photo excursions with Annie and develop film in their darkroom at home.
Respected by his colleagues for his dedicated work ethic, planning and project management skills, Bill retired from DuPont/Chemours after 37 years of distinguished service as Chemours’ Southwest Information Technology Service Delivery Lead.
Bill was a member of several musical groups in the South Texas area. Most notably he sang and played guitar for “South Texas Grass Roots”, a bluegrass and folk music band. Bill’s love for playing and performing music is shared by his brother Kirk, his children, and grandchildren, as well as the rest of the Tumlinson family. His place in the circle will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Tumlinson; brother, Kirk Tumlinson (Kandi); son, Trey Tumlinson (Heidi); daughter, Emily Cardenas (Javi); step-daughters, Evelyn Whelan (Hugh), Kelly McGrath, Audra Taggard (Nate); and eight grandchildren, Ava, Ella, Emma, Ruby, Kayla, Liam, Emerson and Quinten; plus many cousins, nieces and nephews.
