She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Lonnie “Charlie” Watkins; her beloved daughter, Bonnie; mother and father; six sisters; and one brother.
She is survived by her children, Connie (Mark) Hudson, Lonnie (Shelley) Watkins, Ronnie (Cindy) Watkins, Donnie (Sherri) Watkins; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on September 1, 1928. Her parents were originally from Mobile, Alabama but moved to Corpus Christi when her father Clarence “Buck” Rencher took the job as the first harbor master for the Port of Corpus Christi in 1927.
During her life she worked as a telephone operator, sales lady at Lichtenstein’s, teller at Citizen’s State Bank, substitute teacher at Robstown High School and sold real estate for Calallen Realty Co.
Camilla was always happy, laughing and telling jokes. She loved nothing more than to enjoy a cup of coffee with friends and talk about her grandkids.
For years she and her sisters clowned with the Corpus Christi Alley of Clowns of America. They enjoyed entertaining in the Buccaneer Parade, hospitals and even took over City Hall as Mayor for a Day.
She could tell a great joke and especially loved the ones told by her Parish Priest, Msgr. Morgan.
She also loved to play slots at the Isle of Capri at Lake Charles, even in her older age after she lost her eyesight. She had to have a certain triple pay machine and could play it for hours.
She will be missed by her family and all her many friends, but will be remembered with a laugh as we recall her humor and all the happy times we shared with her.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Windsor Facility in Calallen for their kindness and loving care. Also, thank you to Christus Spohn Shoreline for their care.
