

Dwight Martin, 72, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on January 11, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on December 22, 1953, in Houston (Settegast), Texas, to Elustrious Charles Butler and Marion Laverne Boatwright. At the age of eight, he was lovingly adopted by Calvin Martin, who accepted him as his own.
As a child, he moved to Corpus Christi, TX and attended grade school at Booker T. Washington. He moved away and later returned to Corpus Christi, TX as a teenager and attended Solomon M. Coles where he later transferred to Roy Miller High School. Dwight was lovingly accepted into the home of his foster parents John and Dora Scott. He then transferred from Miller and to Foy H. Moody High School where he eventually graduated with the class of 1972. Dwight furthered his education by attending Texas Southern University (TSU) in Houston, TX, Corpus Christi University now known as Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC), as well as Del Mar College, Corpus Christi, TX.
Dwight was drafted into the Army in 1972 and was a Viet Nam Veteran. Dwight also served two years in the Reserves. He was later employed by the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, as well as Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) from September 1974 until his retirement on January 11, 2011.
In April 1983, Dwight married the love of his life and Soulmate, Mae Martin, and from this union a son, Marquis Martin, was born.
Dwight loved his family and friends; they were important to him. He always gave from his heart. He loved giving back to the community and other foundations (St. Jude Hospital was his passion). He was a diehard fan of the Houston Texans (rooting for them to win a Superbowl) and the Astros.
Preceding him in death: Grandmother Jimmie Lee Boatwright, Grandfather Bryant “Daddy Bo” Boatwright, (Father) Elustrious Butler, (Mother) Marion Boatwright, (Foster Father and Mother) John and Dora Scott, and (Sister) Vanessa Antwine.
Dwight is survived by his loving wife Mae Martin, daughter Solheia (Michael) Hall, Sr of Corpus Christi, TX, and son Marquis V Martin of Corpus Christi, TX; (Grandchildren) Chaiyre Miller and Chantí Miller of Corpus Christi, TX, Amani Martin of San Antonio, TX, Michael Hall, Jr of Corpus Christi, TX, and Marquis V Martin II of Corpus Christi, TX; (Sisters) Sandra Polk of Houston, TX; Wynell Coleman (Charles) of Corpus Christi, TX, and (brother) Calvin Martin of Corpus Christi, TX; Goddaughter Shawntae (Lloyd) Michell of Columbia, MS, and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
