Elias Cruz Martinez, 90, Corpus Christi, TX went to his eternal home with Our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday June 8, 2019 after a 13 year battle with Dementia.

He was born on March 4, 1929 to Concepcion Martinez and Luisa Garza in Milford, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Elias was survived by his wife of 66 years, Emma Martinez. Elias was a devoted father to Maria Imelda Martinez (Daniel Acuña), Elias Martinez Jr. (Carmen), Anna Galvan ( Jose ), Sylvia Martinez, Carlos Martinez (Sylvia), and Noe Martinez (Mary). He also survived by his sister Maria Luisa (Licha) Martinez Garza, his sister in law Maria Elida (Tiita) Silvas.

He also had 8 grandchildren Melissa Quintanilla (Andy), Jose Rolando Aguiñaga, Jessica Marie Martinez (James), Noe Abel Martinez (Rosalinda), Daniel Galvan (Rebecca), Javier Galvan, Lisa Marie Martinez, and Sylvia Natalie Martinez. Elias was a Devouted Catholic attending Holy Family Church. He was a member of the Men’s Club (Usher) and a Lector for many years.

He retired from the Corpus Christi Town Club as a Maitre d’ after 39 years of service.

Elias was known to his fellow Softball community as Papi. He was one of the first players to the start of the Corpus Christi Senior Softball Association with only three teams. Today it has grown to 17 teams playing Monday through Thursday. He was a member of a traveling team that won the World Series for the 60’s age group. He was able to enjoy his passion until his 80th year of life.

We have many memories of our Dad Elias. The Easters we had with the Town Club family employees. The trips to the grocery store as younsters at Montemayors Grocery, where he would by us an ice cream cup and chips (used as a spoon). He had a passion for telling jokes. The trips to the Houston Astrodome to watch his beloved Astros. In 2017, he was fortunate to finally see them win the World Series. His passion for jokes. There are many more but too many to list. Thank you Dad

Dearest Elias and family,

My husband, Mario, and I send you our deepest and most heartfelt condolences at the loss of your daddy. His smile on the photo made me smile. I know firsthand how difficult and heartbroken you must be, and I know that the days, months, and even years ahead will be difficult without your daddy. But, our God always gives us strength to move forward at our own pace. There are two scriptures that come to mind: 2 Timothy 4:7-- "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Your daddy did that. And, 2 Corinthians 5: "For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven . . ." Your daddy is now with our Heavenly Father. Praise God! Blessings to you and your family.
