Emma Gonzalez Smith

Emma Gonzalez Smith- beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend passed away at age 92 on June 26th, 2023 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Emma was born to proud parents Juan and Petra Gonzalez on July 10th, 1930 in Mission, Texas.

Emma was proudly married to Col. William K. Smith who served in the United States Air force. Emma and William were married for 42 years. Emma came from humble beginnings in the small town of Mission, Texas and grew up with 11 brothers and sisters. One of her greatest joys was that she was married to a military man and was able to travel the globe. She lived in many different countries like England, Germany and the Philippines. Domestically she lived in California, Florida, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii and of course Texas. She ventured out traveling to Italy, Alaska, Mexico, The Caribbean and one of her favorite places The Holy land of Israel.

Emma loved to host gatherings as a dedicated officer's wife. She was a wonderful homemaker and Mother. She loved volunteering and participating in her children's activities all throughout their childhood. Some of her own hobbies were playing softball, singing in the church choir and living close enough to her sisters to go to jazzercise classes together in the 1980's. Emma will always be remembered for her warm smile and infectious laughter which made her a joy to be around by all that surrounded her.

Emma is preceded in death by her parents Juan and Petra Gonzalez; husband Col. William K. Smith; siblings Roberto Gonzalez, Rodolfo Gonzalez, Reynaldo Gonzalez, Elva Gonzalez Ponce, and Estella Gonzalez Barrett, Jesus Gonzalez, Alfredo Gonzalez, and Eliza Gonzalez.

Emma will be missed dearly by her children Michael Smith, Lori Matthews; siblings Elia Gonzalez Roel, Rene Gonzalez, Tina Gonzalez Balli; and her cherished grandchildren Diego and Danica Matthews.

An inurement for Emma will be held Friday, September 8, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 Ih 37 Access Rd, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410.

Services are entrusted to Funeraria Del Angel Everhart, 4901 Everhart Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78411.
