

Evylin Sciba, loving mother, was born Evylin Aguste Franke on September 24, 1921 in Orange Grove to George G. Franke and Aguste (Kuecker) Franke. She passed away peacefully in her sleep before dawn on December 16, 2012.
Evylin grew up on a farm in Orange Grove with two brothers, George R. Franke (Sonny) and Lee Roy Franke, and four sisters, Lillie who married Oscar Haveman, Esther who married Walter Koenig, Dora Mae who married Edwin Heider, and Loraine (Rena) who married Leroy Jaroszewski. She graduated Valedictorian from Orange Grove High School in 1940. Shortly, thereafter, she moved to Corpus Christi to attend secretarial school where she met and married Marine Tech Sargent Thomas Dexter Basham on October 23, 1943. She is survived by her son, Daniel Dexter Basham of Issaquah, Washington. Thomas never returned home to his family. Evylin is also survived by her sister Loraine Jaroszewski of Corpus Christi and her brother Lee Roy Franke of Orange Grove.
Evylin was always interested in medicine. From the late 1940’s to the late 1960’s, she worked as a medical secretary and assistant in doctors’ offices in Wharton and El Campo and at Baylor Medical School and M. D. Anderson Cancer Institute, both of which are in Houston.
After Evylin married David Sciba on August 1, 1968, the two lived in El Campo. Dave passed away on May 18, 1985. Shortly after their marriage, Evylin began working at Outlar-Blair Clinic in Wharton until she retired in 1986. She continued living alone in El Campo until moving to Mount Carmel Home in Corpus Christi on December 17, 2005. Evylin enjoyed living at Mount Carmel where her sister Loraine (Rena) also lives.
Viewing will be at Cage-Mills Funeral Home, 4901 Everhart Road, Corpus Christi on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm.
Funeral services will be at the Orange Grove Cemetery in Orange Grove on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that donations be made in Evylin’s name to Mount Carmel Home, 4130 S. Alameda St., Corpus Christi, Texas 78411.
