Fausto was a God-fearing man who believed in the power of prayer and instilled Christian values in his children. He took his children to church every Sunday morning and evening at the Bethel Pentecostal Holiness church where he served in various roles as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, superintendent for Sunday School, Secretary for the men’s group, and Secretary for the church.
Fausto proudly became a US Citizen in 1987. He was employed at the Corpus Christi Independent School District for 28 years.
He loved having a big family. When he got home from work, he would always say, “Ya llegó el padre de mas de cinco.” He worked long hours, but always made time to spend with his children. Every birthday and holiday was celebrated with a barbecue at home, a park, a beach, or a river. He loved traveling and took his family on vacations to Mexico, California, Houston, and San Antonio. After his children grew up and left the house, the tradition of spending time together remained. Family celebrations were bigger with 20 or more joining in the fun. His boys and sons-in-law took over barbecuing duties. His children also took over party planning and vacation planning. His favorite vacations were cruises. He spent his last summer on a Caribbean cruise with his wife and all his children.
Aside from his family, he loved gardening. When he visited his children, he arrived with a potted plant, fruit from his trees, or seeds. He also loved fishing with his sons and sons-in-law even when they got stranded at sea. He enjoyed watching sports on tv. He was so excited every time he attended basketball, football, soccer, and boxing events with his boys.
He is in heaven with his parents, children Pedrito and Juanito Herrera, siblings Pablo Mejia, Epifanio Granados, Ruperto Herrera, Sofia Velasquez, and his great grandson, Nico Decanini.
Fausto leaves a strong legacy behind, as he had a great impact on all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cleotilde Herrera; their children Gracie Guess (Chris), Joe Herrera (Julie), Rachel Edgell (David), Lydia Vela (Joe), Miguel Angel Herrera (Monica), Sadie Herrera, their fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
