

George Hancock Gutierrez peacefully entered his eternal rest on March 27, 2026 at the age of 80. He was born February 22, 1946 in Benavides, Texas to parents Hector Gutierrez and Sophia Hancock. He had three siblings, Hector Tomas Gutierrez, Jose Ignacio Gutierrez, and Ladelina Hancock. George’s life was inspiring, shaped by his deep love for his family, his strong work ethic, and his genuine appreciation for life’s simple joys. Anyone that knew him knew of his gentle spirit, his warm smile, and his ability to start a conversation with anyone. George’s life was inspiring, shaped by his deep love for his family, his strong work ethic, and his genuine appreciation for life’s simple joys.A proud United States Army veteran, George was drafted on July 10, 1967, and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. During his time in the Army, he worked as a helicopter mechanic, a role that showcased both his precision and technical skills and would serve as a craft for years to come. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Badge, and Expert Badge—honors that reflect his commitment and dedication to his country.
George spent most of his life in Corpus Christi, where he built a career as a skilled diesel and heavy equipment mechanic. He also earned a welding certification from Del Mar College, further strengthening the skills that he carried with pride throughout his life. He started at a smaller heavy equipment truck service with friends; eventually got hired by the City of Corpus Christi where he served the community by repairing heavy equipment like emergency response apparatus, sanitation trucks and all types of city road construction trucks/machines.
Beyond his work, George cherished his roles as a brother, a father, and a grandfather. He deeply loved his children and grandchildren, and nothing brought him more joy than frequent visits and holidays with them. His life included chapters of personal love, loss, and renewal, and he finally found lasting joy, acceptance and companionship with his dear friend Aggie Horton. He also had his beloved dogs Rex Bobos, Fido, Snoop, Rissa, Pretty Girl and feral cat Kitty; as well has his cockatiel birds Corky and Smokey-- who all held a special place in his heart. George had a lively spirit and a wide range of interests. He enjoyed dancing, bowling, golfing, visiting casinos, and hosting barbecues with family and friends. He had a fondness for music, often enjoying the timeless songs that brought back memories of earlier days. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, and later in life, he found excitement in traveling.
Known for his kindness, George hoped to leave a lasting impression on others by teaching them the importance of treating people with respect and compassion. He will be remembered as a man who stayed active, loved deeply, and lived life on his own terms. He was not big on asking for attention; some would say he was very private, but once he was in the spotlight, he could start a conversation, make people laugh and really bring out the best in others. He had a balanced, practical, and nurturing personality with a deep appreciation for nature and stability.
George’s legacy lives through his children, George Gutierrez Jr. (Melinda Ann Gutierrez), Samuel Mata Gutierrez (Jamie Lynn Gutierrez), and Monica Gutierrez Balarin (Robert Balarin). Grandchildren, Lucas, Chloe, Sienna, Kai, Liam, Robert James, Nia (Sean), Nicolas, and Gabriella, his special friend, Aggie Horton, and beloved pet companion, Pretty Girl; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. He will be reunited with his parents, siblings, extended family, and his beloved animals.
George's life was one of unwavering love, kindness, and friendliness. In honoring George's life, we reflect on the immeasurable impact he had on his family and the people around him. His presence was a gift to all that had the pleasure of getting to know him. As we bid farewell to this remarkable kind man, we take comfort knowing his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.
