Gilberto DeLeon went to be with his Heavenly Father on April 16, 2018 at the age of 94. He was born August 6, 1923 in Laredo, Texas. Gilberto lived a long, beautiful life and will be deeply missed. He joined the United States Army at 19 and was stationed in Germany during World War II. He was a proud World War II veteran.
Gilberto was a proud father, grandfather and a cherished great-grandfather. He was his great-grandchildren’s biggest fan and would routinely attend their baseball and softball games to cheer them on. In 2015, he was blessed with a trip to Washington, DC with the San Antonio Honor Flight.
He is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Alicia Deleon; his sister, Josefina Caballero; his son-in-law, Ricardo Salcido; his niece, Chale Sosa and nephews, Raul and Humberto Caballero.
He is survived by his daughters: Yolanda Salcido, Dolores Serna (Antonio); son, Gilberto DeLeon Jr. (Yolanda) and Elisa Trevino (Tommy). He will be missed by his grandchildren, Alicia Castilleja (Rodrigo), Amanda Vasquez (Jose), Debra Garcia (Armando), Tony Serna Jr. (Lupita), Tim (Jennifer) De Leon, Sandra De Leon, Gilbert (Chelly) De Leon, Jaime (Katie) De Leon. Great-grandchildren: Ryan and Andrea Castilleja, Tony Serna III, Norah, Mayah and Joshuah Garcia, Joshua and Micayla De Leon, Lola Galindo, Isabella, Sofia and Gilbert A. De Leon, Josephine and Kolin Eduardo De Leon.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors.
