She was born on November 30, 1940, in Dialville, Texas, to Doc H. Henderson and Jessie Leola Henderson. Glynda graduated from Alice High School in 1958 and, later that year, married the love of her life, Billy David Dungan, on October 11, in Alice, Texas. Their 56-year marriage was a testament to love and enduring partnership.
A lifelong learner, Glynda earned her degree from Corpus Christi University in 1979 and went on to obtain multiple master’s degrees in education. Her academic achievements reflected not only her passion for learning but also her unwavering dedication to her students and community.
Glynda worked for Corpus Christi Independent School District (CCISD) until her retirement in 2004. Whether in administration or the classroom, she remained committed to personal and professional growth, pursuing advanced education and giving her all to her students with compassion, excellence, and integrity.
A woman of deep faith, Glynda was a proud and devoted member of Asbury United Methodist Church. She served with Stephen Ministry, providing spiritual care and emotional support to others with grace, humility, and heartfelt compassion.
Family was the center of Glynda’s world. She delighted in every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, cherishing each milestone, celebration, and quiet moment alike.
Glynda also lived life to the fullest. She loved ballroom dancing and competed in events with enthusiasm and grace. With her dear friend Solita, she traveled the world, creating unforgettable memories and experiencing new cultures. A devoted fan of country and western music, she never missed a concert and especially loved attending the San Antonio Livestock Show — once driving back and forth daily after work for two weeks just to attend. Her boundless energy and passion were truly inspiring.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billy David “Bill” Dungan; her parents, Doc H. and Jessie Leola Henderson; her sisters, Maxine Halbert, Bina Lloyd, Sue Watson, and Rose Mary "Peggy" Paslay Halbert; and her dear nieces and nephew, Sharon Lynn "Sherry" Coats, Victor Neal Watson, and Kathryn Denise Paslay.
