

Born on February 26, 1929, in General Bravo, Mexico, Irene was the daughter of the late Marciano Garza Tijerina and Francisca Garza Salinas. She was married to Timoteo Garza Serna for 57 loving years.
Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband Timoteo Garza Serna, and their son, Roberto Hector Garza (Narcedalia), and her siblings Guadalupe, Julieta, Felicitas, Luis, Sandino, Noe, Santiago, Felix, Marcial, and Julian.
She is survived by her children, Norma Maribel Lamon (Timothy) and Timoteo Garza Jr. (Lorraine), her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her sister Margarita Garza de Martinez, along with extended family and friends.
A former teacher, seamstress, and housewife, Irene was known for her vibrant personality, colorful outfits, love of crochet, and signature sparkly caps- earning her affectionate nicknames like "The Cap Lady" and ""Queen." She touched countless lives, including over 200 foster children welcomed into her home with Timoteo through the Foster Parents Association.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Randolph Gamez, Dr. Alex McColloster, and the many caregivers, doctors, nurses, hospice workers and support staff who provided loving care to Irene over the years. Special thanks to Harbor Hospice for their compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home.
A visitation for Irene will be held Monday, July 7, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. A prayer service will occur Monday, July 7, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. A committal service will occur Monday, July 7, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
