Have you ever met a teacher that you've never forgotten? A teacher you felt safe with and was almost like your mother or grandmother! That was exactly how hundreds of Mrs. Irma G. Saenz students felt about her.
Irma G. Saenz, age 86, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on June 30, 2021 from cancer. She was born in Kingsville, Texas to Manuel and Aurora Tijerina. She graduated from King High School and earned her Bachelor Degree in Teaching from Texas A&I Kingsville. She married her high school "sweetheart", Romeo M. Saenz on December 30, 1956 and were married for over 64 years. They raised two sons Romeo Jr., and Omar.
Her adventurous and playful spirit led to a life full of happiness and laughter. She loved camping, especially at Gardner State Park, fishing the Laguna Madre, celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, Las Vegas trips, and playing cards with her family and friends. But, what she loved the most was hugging, kissing, teaching, and talking to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The love she had and shared is what made her so beautiful and it was never more evident than when she was with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her love for children led her to a 37 year career of teaching first and second graders.
Irma is survived by her husband Romeo M. Saenz, sons Romeo (Mary) Saenz Jr. , Omar A. Saenz, grandchildren Angela (Rick) Guerra, Natalia Romanucci, Omar Saenz Jr., Michael Saenz, Loren Saenz, Skyler Saenz, great grandchildren Mia Guerra, Vincent Romanucci, Antonio Romanucci, Angelina Romanucci, brothers Manuel (Doreen) Tijerina, Humberto (Rose) Tijerina, Ramon (Sandra) Tijerina, sisters Amparo (Frank) Montoya, Romanita (Abel) Gonzales, Grace (Valdemar) Delgado, Rosa (Basil) Granado and many cousins, nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Aurora Tijerina, and sisters Consuelo Perez and Christina husband Arredondo.
