Being raised in the grocery business(Huff's Foodtown) allowed me the opportunity as well as the privilege of meeting James Maresh. Working for Rainbo Bakery he was our breadman, back then there was only one competitor in town that James referred to as Rubber Krust (Butter Krust).  Every day James would deliver bread in the morning and check stock in the afternoon, and upon completion of taking care of business granddaddy Huff and James would go to the warehouse and pull out a coin and play odd or even and in the morning it was for a Coca-Cola but in the afternoon it would be for a pivo(beer). That could be what they are doing right now unless James is hitting grounders to Kenny. Mr. Maresh was a lot more than a breadman, he was a class act, a teacher, a man of integrity, who left behind many memories as well as examples for us to live by. As Allen stated in an earlier post james would come by the store twice a day except on Wednesday, that was supposed to be there day off. In the morning when he was finished stocking bread Grandaddy Huff and James would go in the warehouse and play odd or even for a Coca-Cola and in the afternoon they would play the same game except instead of a Coca-Cola it would be for a pivo(beer). Im not sure who was winning at this game but I bet they are flipping coins as we speak if James is not hitting grounders to Kenny. Mr Maresh was more than our bread man ,he was a class act, a man of integrity  who left behind many examples for us to follow. God Bless.

Oh Mr. Maresh, you will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew you. I find comfort in knowing that you are with our Lord and Savior as well as your precious son.

My earliest memory of James goes back to when I was about six years old.  He was my mom's Rainbow delivery man.  I referred to him as my Hoot N Toot man.  He always made sure I had Hoot N Toots on the shelf for my after school snack.  If I was there when he delivered he would sit down and color with me.  He loved children and they loved him.  Little did I know years later I would love his son Kenny as well.  James worked hard, it was in his DNA.  He loved baseball and loved to coach.  I know he and Kenny are throwing a baseball around right now.  
 
Gladys and family, I love you like my own family. You will always be in my heart.  I'm sorry for your sadness. May your faith in our Lord Jesus Christ bring you peace through this time.

Jak se mas? Dobje! I heard that Czech greeting and reply many times in my life,but my most memorable were between my grandfather Victor Huff and Mr. Maresh twice a day except on Wednesdays. Mr. Maresh was our Rainbow Bread man but to me he was much more than that. He was my coach,mentor,friend and like a second father to me as a child. Whether it was Oil Belt,Moravian Hall or spending a night over, I always loved being in the presence of this man. He always had a smile for me and I will never forget him sitting in his bread truck with his hat off,head down with a tear streaming down his face as my Grandfathers funeral procession crossed Leopard St. Everyone at Huff Foodtown loved Mr. Maresh and his family. In my 54 years I can't remember not knowing Mr. Maresh and I will never forget him. I learned things from him that I still carry with me today,things you learn from observing,by example. I am a better fisherman,sportsman,father and person from knowing him. Who else could have you jump in the back of his red Ranchero with all of your buddies to go pick okra in the heat of summer and have the time of your life. God bless you and your family. Go rest Mr. Maresh and have a game of catch with Kenny. Peace
