Jean Elizabeth Payton

In 1967, she remarried to Norman C. Payton, and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1974 and then to Portland, Texas in 2010.

Jean was a long-time member of the Eastern Star and held numerous positions, including Worthy Matron 1989 – 90 and 1994 – 95. She was President of the VFW #2397 Woman’s Auxiliary from 1979 – 84 and 1987 – 90. She and Norm were members of the Al-Amin Shriners of Corpus Christi. She attended the First Methodist Church, Portland.

In October 2020, Jean moved to her son’s home in Bandera, Texas to be with her family.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Norm Payton; brothers, Lewis O’Brien and William O’Brien; daughters, Brandi Parker and Yolanda Gregory.

She is survived by her four sisters, Katherine Ayash, Patricia Bell, Sharon Thorne, and Donna Kent; her son, Lloyd Teel (Guilda); grandchildren, Lisa Mueller (Mike), Becky Smith (Mark), Bryan Smith, Gary Gregory (Alice), Teressa Philips, Carlos Alatorre (Martha), and Christopher Alatorre (Margaritta). Jean is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 8:30 AM with Funeral Service at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow at Coastal Bend State Veteran’s Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
