He was born to the late Garland Thomas and Alma Mae Clapp, January 20, 1938, in Marble City, OK. Jimmy graduated from Hobbs High School in 1957 and received his Engineering degree shortly afterwards. Jimmy married the love of his life, Sherland Hurst, on July 3, 1958. The love they shared was admired by many.
Jimmy lost his father at the young age of nine years old and became a father figure to his younger brother Jerry Dean. After high school, Jimmy got married, worked a full time job and traveled 45 minutes to attend college. Jimmy’s family was his driving force to achieve his goal to complete his degree. It’s amazing to look back and see a man that was born in poverty and see all his accomplishments. Jimmy was Senior Supervisor System Group Technician for ConocoPhillips until he retired in 1993. However, Jimmy’s knowledge was sought after for several major projects all over the world. He worked on the Polar Lights Project for Russia and worked on the world’s largest oil production plant in Saudi Arabia. Jimmy’s last work assignment was Hawkville NE with Bottom Line Service. He is known for his integrity and dedicated work ethic.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Sherland Clapp, two daughters and two son-in-laws: Debra Sue Crain, Jimmy Allen Crain, of Beaumont, TX and Carolyn Jeanette Castaneda, and Reymundo Castaneda of Corpus Christi, TX; his brother Jerry and Pam Clapp; grandchildren, Telisha & Charles Barden, Sherland & Joe Peddy, Dallas & Ashley Crain, Stephen Authement and Trevor Authement; great-grandchildren, Tiffany Bassett, Asher James Authement-Garza and Kaden Barden.
