

Cmdr. John J. Foley USN (Ret.) passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence on Friday, December 29, 2017. He was 95 years of age. He was born in Norwalk, CT on August 17, 1922 to the late Peter F. and Theresa (Conway) Foley. John was married to the love of his life, Margaret Sue for 69 years. During his naval career of 27 years, John and Sue traveled all across the U.S. as well as abroad. John served in World War II, the Korean War, Gemini and Apollo space missions and performed Public Relations work for NAS Corpus Christi before retiring in 1969. After his military service he worked for the Catholic Diocese of Corpus Christi where he was awarded a Papal Recognition from Pope Paul VI in 1977. He was a member of the Serra Club, Rotary Club, St. Patrick Church, Friday Morning Group, Boy Scouts of America, Press Club, Sister City Japan Committe and Little Theater of Corpus Christi, now known as The Harbor Playhouse. He had a passion for yard work and attending Squadron Reunions. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Sue Foley; 2 brothers, Tom, Peter and 3 sisters, Eleanor, Kate and Marion; and his parents. John is survived by his 6 children: Susan Cuevas (Luis), Jay Foley, Tim Foley (Linda), Carol Robertson, Lynn Fernand (Peter), and Kelly Schumaker (Sam). John is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and numerous family members and friends. Visitation will be held at Cage-Mills Funeral Home on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Cage-Mills Funeral Home. Interment services will be private.
