Jose “Chépe” Nicolas Gomez Sandoval entered into eternal rest on April 1, 2025 at the age of 77. He was born in Jalisco, Mexico on September 10, 1947 to parents, Maria De Jesus Sandoval Nuñez and Jose Cleofas Gomez Islas.
Jose grew up in Guadalajara, where his love for soccer began. It was a passion that stayed with him throughout his life—so much so that at times, his wife would joke that soccer was his true first love. He played semi-professional soccer in Mexico until an injury ended his career, but his dedication to the sport never wavered.
At a young age, Chépe married and as a young man, he moved to the United States to be closer to family. As the second oldest of twelve siblings, family was always at the heart of his life- He was a man of many passions. He loved being outdoors, tending to his garden, and taking in the simple joys of nature. He and his wife shared a love for biking, gardening and hiking, creating countless adventures together. He also had a deep appreciation for traveling, often venturing back to Guadalajara, the Philippines, or setting sail on cruises. No matter where he was, he was happiest near the ocean, where he found peace and joy.
A skilled dancer, Jose was always ready to take the floor, his rhythm and energy making him the life of any celebration. He had a strong work ethic, always holding himself to high standards and striving to impress those around him. He worked diligently as a hospital engineer, dedicating himself to his profession until his well-earned retirement. It was at such hospital that he met his wife, Easterbelle Araque. Together they married at the Bird Island Basin Padre Island National Seashore and shared 13 years filled with love and adventures.
Yet, despite his drive and determination, he remained a simple man who loved fully and wholeheartedly. Family was his greatest love. While he adored his wife, children, and large extended family, his grandchildren held an extra special place in his heart. He cherished every moment spent with them, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
