Joseph C. DuBois, Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 with his family at his side, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease and its complications. He was 89 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Clinton and Helen Trask DuBois, and his brother, John Harmon DuBois.
Joe was born in Savannah, Georgia, on July 6, 1921. Joe was a quiet, gentle, and independent southern gentleman, but when he spoke people listened for his wit and wisdom. He lived through the depression and then served in World War II as a paratrooper and glider trooper and was honorably discharged from the Army. He married Jane Harris Williams in Savannah, Georgia in 1946. Their loving marriage of sixty-four years produced two sons, Stephen Dale DuBois and Joseph Scott DuBois. He had three grandchildren, Christie Goeden, Travis DuBois, and Paige DuBois. His family was his pride and joy.
He graduated from Colorado School of Mines in 1950 and was employed for thirty years with Mobil Oil Company as a geological engineer. He spent his career exploring for oil primarily in west Texas and the Gulf of Mexico, offshore of Texas and Louisiana.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; sons and their wives Steve and Kenna DuBois of Delta Junction, Alaska and Scott and Cyndy DuBois of Kingwood, Texas; grandchildren Christie Goeden of Seattle, Washington; Travis DuBois of Chubbuck, Idaho; Paige DuBois of Kingwood, Texas; nephews and nieces Christopher, Claire, Johnathan, and Phillip DuBois, Morgan and Paul Williams; and Lin Schussler-Williams. In his final months of life he was lovingly cared for by Mary Jane Arredondo and Irma Jimenez.
His favorite pastime was taking his boys fishing and hunting, and other than that he said that nothing compared with “just messing around in a boat.”
Interment will be in Savannah, Georgia with the service conducted by his niece, the Reverend Linda Schussler-Williams of Louisville, Kentucky at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Audubon Outdoor Club of Corpus Christi or to a charity of your choice.
