He was born in Realitos, Texas to the late Camilo and Joaquina Vela. He is preceded in death by his son, Lauro Vela and son-in-law, Jackie Reed Thrasher.
Juan retired from CCISD after 30 years of service.
He leaves behind his family to cherish his memories; his loving and devoted wife; Baudelia G. Vela; three sons, Juan H. Vela, Jr. of Realitos, Texas, Homer (Esmeralda) Vela and Humberto Vela of Corpus Christi, Texas; three daughters, Isabel Trasher of Corpus Christi, Texas, Marianne Vela of San Antonio, Texas and Maria Juanita (Nick) Gomez of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sisters, Maria Soliz of Falfurrias, Texas and Alvesa Leal of Alice, Texas; numerous great and great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 29, 2013 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with a Memorial Service to be held at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.
