
Lillian, 81 of Corpus Christi passed away peacefully at home Wednesday September 5, 2012. She was born August 29, 1931 to Ruby Ethel Bull Moore and Walter Young Moore in McKinney Texas. Lillian lived in Sulpher Springs for several years before returning to Mc Kinney in 1933. School began at JL Greer Elementary Ward School and JH Hill Central Ward in Mc Kinney. Lillian’s Grandfather Jesse Bull was very big on better education for his children and sacrificed to send her to town school instead of country school. She attended McKinney High School where she met Gerald R. “Buddy” Scalf, an upper classman football player. Lillian graduated McKinney high school in 1949. She went to college at Texas State College for Women now known as Texas Women’s University Lillian and Buddy married October 23, 1951 in Clovis New Mexico where Buddy worked for Magnolia Oil. Lillian worked at the college of pharmacy at University of Texas for four years, taking unpaid maternity leave for the birth of Sharon Scalf in 1955. Buddy was early in his junior year at UT. Buddy and Lillian moved to Corpus Christi on September 1, 1957 where Buddy began working for the Texas Highway Dept. They lived on Green Grove with little Sharon. In 1957 Lillian became pregnant. The baby was stillborn at six months. In 1959 Lillian became pregnant again. Later that year Gerald R “Butch” Scalf Jr. was born. Lillian was room mother at Frazier Elementary and school carnival organizer. She was an active PTA member at Frazier and Meadowbrook as well as Cullen Jr. High and King High School. She was also on advisory committees, Execute Board and other organizations. Lillian and Buddy traveled many vacations including Canada, Alaska, Yellowstone, Washington DC and the Grand Canyon. Lillian was active in PTA activities for several years after the last child graduated in 1978. Lillian took up oil painting in 1976 and also got her cocker spaniel “Morgan” that year. In 1985 Lillian began as a ladies auxiliary volunteer at Ada Wilson Hospital. Ada Wilson later was absorbed by Driscoll Hospital where Lillian continued her work up to 2005 when health complications from COPD necessitated her retirement. Lillian is survived by loving husband Buddy Scalf, daughter Sharon Scalf, son Butch Scalf and wife Ida. By grandchildren Jamie Edwards, Ashley Scalf and John Edwards. Step Granddaughter Elaina Luu, Grandson in law Cuong Luu and Great Grandson Landon Luu. A memorial service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors, 4501 Everhart Rd where services will conclude.
