Luis S. Alvarado, age 92, a resident of Corpus Christi, Texas, peacefully departed this life on September 18, 2023, while his devoted wife, Herminia Alvarado, held his hand as he drew his final breath.
Luis was born on October 3, 1930, to Eduardo Alvarado and Manuela Sosa. He was born in Tamaulipas, Mexico, and later moved to Matamoros, Mexico, where he met his wife, Herminia. After marrying Herminia, he moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he started his family. He will always be remembered as a loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a good friend.
At a youthful age, Luis learned the meaning of hard work by shining shoes and selling gardenias to help his family. He often talked about the hardships he experienced as a child in Mexico and told stories of what it was like working in the fields picking fruit. Luis studied and earned his GED, that started a love for learning. He was an avid reader who continually acquired new skills, including welding, mechanics, carpentry, and construction. Given his profession in the construction industry, he used these skills to personally craft and construct a home for his beloved wife.
Luis and Herminia shared a boundless love that was cherished by all, a love that everyone aspires to find when they exchange their vows before God. Luis will be fondly recalled as a humble man who embodied a strong work ethic. He was celebrated for his sharp wit, quick comebacks, infectious laughter, and radiant smile. One of his famous sayings was “Watch out for the other guy,” along with “Friends come and go, but your Family will always be there.” He was fondly known as “Wicho” by his family and friends. He had a compassionate, generous heart, he and his wife would help countless individuals and families. Luis and Herminia instilled in their children the importance of challenging work and what it is to be a “family.” He loved his family and if you knew him, you knew it. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and love. He will be missed dearly but never forgotten and will live forever in our hearts.
