Maria M. Vega lived a life marked by steadfast devotion, quiet strength, and a sincere desire to love well. She shared 61 years of marriage with the love of her life, Aurelio H. Vega, and together they built a family and a legacy grounded in faith, perseverance, and shared purpose. Their love story was both simple and extraordinary. Aurelio, originally from Flagstaff, Arizona, first met Maria—whom he lovingly referred to as his “yellow rose of Texas”—through an introduction. The second time they saw one another was when he
came in person to ask for her hand in marriage. The third time they met was on their wedding day in February of 1963. From those few meetings grew a lifelong partnership rooted in trust and commitment, one that would welcome six children and nurture a
family of eight bound together by sacrificial love. Maria was deeply intentional about planting her family’s roots. She believed in stability, community, and service, and she modeled those values through her devotion to her school and church communities—Holy Family Catholic Church, Ss. Cyril & Methodius, and later Most Precious Blood. For Maria, faith was not merely practiced; it was lived through service to others. She worked to be an example for her children, offering them a vision of self-donative love, even when their own paths led them in different directions. Her example remained steady and sincere.
Maria was the beloved daughter of Teresa Galindo Juarez and Priciliano Juarez, who preceded her in death. She is now reunited with her husband Aurelio, her brother Valentin Juarez, and her cherished grandchildren Nicholas Vega and Zachary Vega. It brings comfort to imagine her being gently welcomed home by those she loved so dearly.
She is survived by her dear brother, Felix Juarez (Linda), and her six children: Clara Miller (Mitchell), Rosa Maria Vega, John Vega, Sylvia Vega Rios (Raul), Reuben Vega (Sarah), and Noe Vega (Sarah Oesch Vega). Maria held a special place in her heart for all of her grandchildren, offering prayers of gratitude for each of them through her devotion to the rosary and to Holy Mass. She is
lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Katherine Hawkins (husband Ben Hawkins), Sebrina Vega Hatch (husband James Hatch), David Vega, Mikaela Vega, Anjelica Rios Luke (husband Ethan Luke), Juliana Rios, Isabela Rios, Dahlia Rios, Roman Augustine Rios, Teresa Rios, Alissa Vega, Shaun Vega, Lucas Vega,
Annabella Vega, and Bethany Aurelia Vega, and one great grandchild; Evelyn Mae Luke.
Special Thanks.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at CareCo Corpus Christi for their attentive care to Maria during her time with them.
Maria M. Vega leaves behind a living legacy—one shaped not by perfection, but by faithfulness, persistence, and a lifelong commitment to loving others in the ways she knew best. Her life gently reminds us that when love is given steadily and with intention, it endures across generations.
