

Maria "Mary Lou" Almaraz Zapata, 67, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 5, 2010. She was born July 17, 1942 in San Diego, Texas. Maria was a devoted Jehovah Witness and member of the Los Encinos Congregation for 46 years. Maria devoted her life and energy to her faith in Jehovah God and lovingly raising her 7 children and spoiled each one of her grand kids. She was loved immensely by each one of her seven children ("Mama you were the best"). She touched the life of many through her baby sitting. She was known by everyone as "Wela". Maria will be missed greatly by everyone who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alejos and Guadalupe Almaraz; brothers, Adan, Abelardo, Alejos, Jr., and Arnoldo Almaraz; daughter-in-law, Elisa Ortiz Zapata; and grandson, William "Billy" Gonzalez, Jr..
She leaves behind her husband of 51 years, Jesus Zapata, Sr.; sons, Smiley (Reyna) Zapata, Jesse, Jr., and Samuel Zapata of Corpus Christi; daughters, Zenaida (Blas) Cantu, Zulema (William) Gonzalez of San Antonio, Texas, Nora (Angel) Flores, Noemi (Fernando) Perez of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandchildren, Cilicia (Ramiro) Robledo, Smiley Zapata, Jr., Eric Gonzalez, Maria Elizabeth (Robert) Dunn, Christopher and Victoria Flores, Aaron and Kaylana Perez, Ashley, J.J., and Alexus Zapata; great-grandchild, Elisa Marie Robledo; sister, Lucila Vela of Alice, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Jesse Zapata, Jr., Samuel Zapata, William Gonzalez, Angel Flores, Fernando Perez, and Robert Dunn.
Her husband, daughters, and sons give special thanks to all her doctors, nurses, CNA's and Dialysis care members at DSI, Spohn Shoreline, Kindred Hospital, and Vista Care who attended to Maria's medical needs. Special thanks to Dr. Francisco and Raymond Acebo who provided her with excellent patient care.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Jose A. Garcia and Americo Salinas, members and Elders of Los Encinos Congregation officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
