Maxine M. Roach, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother (she just kept getting better) and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, at the age of 96. Born in Quanah, TX on February 2, 1929, into the itinerant oil-field family of Carl and Elsie Bradshaw Moore, Maxine spent her early years shuttled among the North-Texas oil-field camps and the tent settlements of the Great Depression. In the early 1940’s Elsie moved her family to Corpus Christi, where Maxine spent most of the rest of her life. She married Oscar Louis Roach on September 3,1948, and raised three children, Marilynn, David, and Brad.
A dedicated homemaker, Maxine also possessed an entrepreneurial spirit. She sold World Book Encyclopedias door-to-door while her kids were in school, took courses at Del Mar College, built a successful Shaklee Organization, and finally, at age 69, opened and operated a state-licensed adult day care facility, Arbor Adult Day Center, for the next 15 years. That’s just some of it.
Maxine was a woman of many gifts and passions. She found beauty in the tedious stitching of intricate embroidery and quilting, and in the delicate strokes of China painting. She loved plants, taking joy in cultivating her orchids and other blooming plants. As a wonderful cook (great tamales!) and homemaker, she raised her family and created memories along the way as the family followed jobs across states in the early years. She was the consummate game player, skilled in the games of Bridge, Texas 42, and had an uncanny affinity for winning Bingo. At the living centers she lived in, she became the terror of the poker table. She loved to drive and loved long road trips. Her generosity spanned the generations and the continent. Maxine had a great faith in God amidst trials, tribulations, and triumphs of life.
Maxine was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Bradshaw Moore; Sisters Thea Romaine (Pensacola, FL); Gloria Powers (Brownsville, TX); and Doris Roeber (Longview, TX); and brothers Jack Moore (Corpus Christi), Harold Moore (Corpus Christi), Hugh Moore (Dallas, TX), and Joe Moore (Corpus Christi). She was also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Oscar Louis Roach (Corpus Christi) in 1996. Maxine is survived by her children: Marilynn Roach Partain of Missoula, Montana (Don Partain); David Lawrence Roach of Austin, TX; and son, F. Bradly Roach (Beth C. Roach) of San Antonio, TX. She leaves behind a large and loving family that includes 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and her first great-great-grandchild in 2024.
Maxine’s presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in the stories told, the blooming wildflowers in spring, and every act of love shared among those she touched.
A welcoming of guests for Maxine will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. A Celebration of Life and Prayer Service will occur Wednesday, April 16, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415.
