Melba was born in Cabot, Arkansas on June 9, 1917. At age three, she and family moved from Cabot to the Texas Rio Grande Valley. She spent her childhood years on the family farm near Edinburg, TX and moved to Edinburg in her teens. Melba graduated from Edinburg High School in 1935 and shortly thereafter married the “love of her life”, Hester Louis Murray, on September 3, 1939. Louis and Melba had one child, Louis Scott Murray, on September 15, 1945, just at the end of World War II.
First and foremost, Melba loved the Lord. She was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church in Corpus Christi and a former member of Grace Presbyterian Church, Corpus Christi. Melba loved and cared for her family and friends throughout her life. She was affectionately known by her entire family as “Big Mama”.
She was very active during her years in the Rio Grande Valley and served as secretary for the Hidalgo County Historical Society, Secretary for the Salvation Army, Edinburg Chapter, and worked as Hidalgo County Assistant Treasurer from 1972 to 1984. Melba had a great love for gardening and God’s great outdoors. She always had beautiful yards admired by family and friends and she spent countless hours with her family in the Brush Country of South Texas, the beaches of Padre Island and the waters of the Laguna Madre.
We thank God for Melba’s amazingly blessed long life and the eternal life she now enjoys.
Melba was preceded in death by her father, Walter Scott Glover; her mother, Mable Lee Glover; her sisters, Phayne Glover and Ruth Glover, and her husband, Louis Murray. Melba is survived by her son, Louis Scott Murray (Paulette); grandson, Kirk Scott Murray (Robin), and three great-grandchildren, Ben Murray, Austin Murray (Sydney) and Megan Murray.
Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the amazing and compassionate doctors, nurses and caregivers at the Bay Area Heart Hospital as well as her close friends, Jan and Buzz Sawyer.
