She graduated from Lawrence High School and proudly received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas after taking time to raise her five children successfully. She raised her children on an adventure that started in Kansas. They traveled to the west coast where she lived in a vista cruiser wagon and a tent with her husband, five children, two dogs, two cats and even puppies, at times. She was known as ‘Madame Butterfly’ on the CB radio and HAM, which was a great way of communicating within both the towns, and the world. NancieJo lived more than a decade in Alaska where she helped build the Alyeska pipeline. After some time she would travel down the west coast and back to Kansas again, ultimately settling in Corpus Christi, Texas in 2008.
NancieJo was fortunate to love her occupation at the University of Kansas where she retired. She enjoyed working with professors, associates and students alike. She loved life with all its difficulties. She weathered a challenging journey with humor, quiet strength, determination and grace. Her sense of humor was well known to family, friends, and acquaintances alike. NancieJo was known to lighten any situation, when possible. A good friend described her as sweet “Frothy” and endlessly cheerful. NancieJo was a laid-back free spirit at heart but was as feminine as a Princess was. She loved lunching and visiting with fiends. The pandemic did not change her dedication to friends and they would meet regularly in their individual cars-Drive In style to maintain their tradition.
NancieJo had many passions and interest. She loved art and the creative process of it. She loved how the art came alive for the artist, whether their expression be through art, dance, film or literature. She was passionate about the sunset over the Pacific Ocean and the sunrise over the Gulf. She had a love and affinity for nature (except for swamps and gators), but the Beach was truly her happy place.
She was a great lover of music whether old or new rock, pop and rap. Anyone who knew her knew that Freddy Mercury and Queen were her favorite. Her well cared for Pomeranian puppy was name after the lead singer. Many knew that she was also an animal lover; they brought her great joy (except Gators). She instilled a love and reference for them to her children.
Simply stated, NancieJo was an amazing mother, grandmother, daughter and friend; an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. NancieJo will continue to shine in the hearts of her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories.
She is survived by her children; Douglas Edward and wife Kathy Lynn, Leslie Diane, Stefanie Louise and husband Joe Scott Wackler, Kristen Marie, Steven Clifford; Grandchildren, Mandy, Amy, James, Lindsey, Grant and Zoe along with multitudes of great grandchildren as well as extended family by Love and Blood and Friendship and Marriage.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clifford Turl and Josephine Margaret Votaw Davis.
In lieu of flowers or gifts she would want to you spend time on your passions and organizations of choice. Most importantly, she would want you to hug your loved ones.
She touched so many lives that the family was not aware of and so if you would forward the link to this memory page for as many to see that would be appreciated.
