Nancy Dee Salinas (Lozano) was born November 24, 1959, and took her last breath on November 25, 2021, at age 62. She was a lifetime native of Corpus Christ, Texas, and the middle child of five children.
As a young girl, she found her love of twirling the baton and was mostly self-taught. She attended T.G. Allen Elementary, Wynn Seale Junior High, and graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1978. Nancy was the head twirler, played the trumpet in band in middle school, and in high school. She learned how to twirl fire batons and knives.
Nancy continued her education by attending Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, where she acquired a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Training and Development and a Master of Science in Counseling. She was a 2003 and 2006 TAMU-CC alumna, she served on numerous committees and was Staff Advisor for Sigma Lambda Gamma sorority. Dedicating over 21 years to the TAMUCC faculty.
In October 2000 she started as a student worker. In 2001 she started in the Admissions and Records office as an Admissions Specialist and in 2007, Nancy transitioned to the Career Counseling team. As a dedicated counselor, she often worked from home on her days off, holidays, and even her last birthday. For the past 14 years, Nancy has served as a Career Counselor for various colleges, most recently as a Senior Career Counselor for the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Education and Human Development.
A student described Nancy as “a campus treasure”, and co-workers and friends have expressed “her smile could light up a dark room”, and her uplifting personality was contagious. “Nancy Salinas embodied what it meant to be an Islander. She had a passion for working with students and was dedicated to every student’s success,” shared by Dr. Leslie Mills. “She touched countless lives while here at the university and her passing is a great loss for our campus community. She will be missed by her students, colleagues, and friends.”-TAMUCC TEAM.
Nancy was hardworking with a passion for her career. She was a loving, and supportive mother to her daughters and grandchildren. She adored her three grandchildren who she called “My Precious, Precioso, and Preciosa.” She had a big heart and loved her family and friends unconditionally, no matter how she was treated because Nancy always tried to see the best in everyone. Nancy was a genuine person and if she promised to help you, she would. Even if that meant giving you the shirt off her back or the last penny in her pocket, she followed through without hesitation.
Many people who knew Nancy will always remember her famous quote “Why wasn’t I born rich instead of beautiful.”, but she was rich with love from so many people she has touched throughout her lifetime. The sun will never shine as bright as it did when she was on this earth.
Nancy is preceded in death by her Parents Henry Lozano JR. and Anita Viesca Lozano; her siblings, Henry Lozano III and Carmen Rose Lozano. As well as her grandparents, and many of her aunts, uncles, and cousins.
