Nestor Serrano Rivera, 72, was called home suddenly on July 30, 2017 at Bay Area Medical Center. Nestor was a hardworking family man who never understood the term “retired”. Dad was our strength and our protector; he tried his hardest to answer every question and solve every problem. He worked tirelessly to help his son, son in law, and youngest daughter start their own businesses. He wanted to make sure that we all knew the value of personal connections in business and was always first in line for every meeting and growth opportunity. Being a part of these new business ventures was both a source of happiness and pride for him. He loved family dinners, road trips, gardening, concerts, his boots, black wrangler jeans, and country music. Nestor’s favorite position though was being a grandfather. He loved playing “eye spy” on car rides with his grand daughters and having nerf gun fights with his grandson Braylon (his dirt dog) and he was quick to enlist his help while working in the yard. He was known for his quick wit and sharp tongue that drove his oldest grandson Anthony crazy and would often embarrass his granddaughters. His five grandchildren were his greatest source of pride. On September 4, 1977, Nestor married the love of his life Miriam. Dad said on many occasions that mom was his partner and he couldn’t be without her. He loved planning get aways with mom especially to Eagle Pass and Louisiana where he loved to go to the casinos. He always hoped to make a trip back to Puerto Rivera with his love. This year was to be their 40th wedding anniversary. Nestor was born on February 24, 1945 in San Juan Puerto Rico to his loving parents Benigno and Dora Rivera. He would say at every opportunity that his mother was his best friend and loved sharing stories about our grandfather and his brothers and sisters as they were growing up. We shared lots of laughter sitting around the dining room table reminiscing with a good cup of coffee and he never stopped trying to pass down the lessons he had learned from his own father. Nestor is survived by his loving mother Dora, his beloved wife Miriam, sister in law Alma, children Margaret, Jennifer, Adrienne (Jeremiah) and Matthew his five grandchildren Anthony, Cyana, Brooklyn, Kaira, and Braylon, sister Elsa, brothers Oscar (Rosie),Benny (Pat) and several nieces and nephews that meant the world to him. He is preceded in death by his devoted father Benigno, brother Miguel Angel, and sister Lydia. Nestor’s life will be celebrated with a viewing beginning at 5pm on Friday, August 4, 2017 followed by the reading of the holy rosary at 7pm at Cage Mills funeral home (4901 Everhart). There will then be a mass honoring Nestor’s life Saturday morning at 11am at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church (3210 S Padre Island Dr.).
