Noemi Nieto Cervantes passed away August 21, 2012 at the age of 86. Noemi was born on February 1, 1926 in Rockdale, Texas. She was given a glorious body as she entered Heaven to meet her Lord Jesus Christ and be reunited with her late husband Salvador Cervantes and is now joyfully celebrating her new life in heaven with her family, friends, brothers and sisters in Christ.
Noemi enjoyed praising the Lord thru her singing and playing many musical instruments like the piano. She loved to crochet, sew, draw, and do find a word in her spare time. She was a Baptist pastor’s wife for 41 years. She loved children and taught (1st-2nd) graders in Sunday school, and also taught Head Start, played the piano and sang for most of her active life at El Mesias Baptist Church, in Corpus Christi, Texas where she was a member.
In 1999, she moved to New Braunfels, Texas to live with her daughter, Sylvia until her illness forced her to be relocated to Sundance Nursing Home in New Braunfels in 2008, where she was always singing hymns and continued her Christian testimony to everyone around her. She would attend every church service available. She told all her caregivers “Bonita” and “I love you” and they felt good hearing positive words. Many times they sang along with her. As her Alzheimer’s health declined in 2012 she was relocated to Eden Home Communities where she was cared for with the assistance of Hope Hospice.
She is survived by her daughter Sylvia (Jerry) Benavidez, son Daniel Cervantes, three grandchildren: Jerry Jason Benavidez, Kristen (Abby) Reyna (Joe), Valerie Trevino (Hector) and six great-grandchildren: Kristen C. Reyna, Joe D. Reyna, Joseph Reyna, Isabelle Reyna, Jacob Reyna and Andrew Trevino.
Noemi also leaves behind to cherish her memories a brother, Ralph Nieto (Florence); sister-in-laws, MaryAnn Nieto, Maria Lucia Basquez, Dolores Frutos, and brother-in-law, Jose Luis Cervantes (Lucia), many nieces and nephews.
