Oralia Perez Vela

Oralia P. Vela passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 12, 2025, in Houston TX. Up until the end she maintained her love for her family. She was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, daughter, aunt, sister, and godmother to her family.

She was born July 25, 1936, Rancho Las Lajitas Parás Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Trinidad and Irene Perez. She was the eighth of ten children to the Perez family. She married her husband, Oscar Vela on March 31, 1956. She was a loving mother to her children, Eladio Vela, Oscar Vela Jr., Norma Vela, and Eduardo Vela. She always said their birth changed her life for the better, and they felt that in the love and support she provided. She was especially fond of the time she was able to care for her grandchildren. Oralia was a lifelong member for Holy Family Catholic Church in Corpus Christi TX.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Trinidad & Irene Perez; husband, Oscar Vela; siblings, Alicia Barrera, Amador Perez, Manuel Perez, Maria de Jesus Diaz, Emelia Canales, Ofelia Gutierrez, Romeo Perez, and Ludivina Cadena.

She is survived by her brother, Trinidad Perez; children, Eladio Vela (Norma Vela), Oscar Vela Jr. (Irma Vela), Norma Vela, and Eduardo Vela (Cyndi Vela); grandchildren,Omar Vela, Ann Marie Vela, Adelene Nicole Vela (Joe Tellez), Jennifer Amanda Vela, Michael Anthony Vela, Eduardo Vela Jr., and many nieces and nephews.

The Vela Family is grateful to Oralia Vela’s care providers who offered their unwavering love to our mother, Oralia, over the last few years. Thank you, Maria Teresa Murillo, Hilda Robles and Gabriela Castaneda. Thank you, Teresa Canales, who recognized mom’s needs and helped us navigate through the journey. Lastly, thank you to our family and friends who surrounded mom at her final hour and who continue to support the family as we learn to live without her. She left us as she lived – surrounded by family.

Public Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home located at 8200 Old Brownsville Rd., Corpus Christi, Texas 78415 on Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Eulogy at 6:00 PM.
