A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher, and friend, Raul was known for his kind heart, warm smile, and quick wit. He loved deeply and selflessly, and he truly never met a stranger. Always ready to help someone in need, he shared his time, talents, and humor generously with everyone around him.
A proud graduate of Mary Carroll High School, Raul earned his associate degree from Corpus Christi State University. He dedicated over 55 years to the medical field, most of those years as a respiratory therapist, where he provided compassionate care to countless patients. For more than 45 years, Raul also taught Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) to healthcare providers throughout the community, passing on his expertise and commitment to saving lives.
Outside of work, Raul was a man of many passions. He was a crooner at heart who loved the timeless music of Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. A talented artist, he expressed himself through sketching and painting—capturing everything from landscapes to portraits with striking realism and emotion. He also loved spending time outdoors on the ranch, hunting, fishing, raising cattle, and finding peace in nature’s quiet beauty.
Raul was preceded in death by his parents, George Hernandez and Florinda Armendarez Hernandez.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Loana Hernandez; his children, Crystal Spain and Raul Hernandez Jr. (wife, Kristen Hernandez); and his stepchildren, Stephanie Benedit and Steven Benedit.
