He was originally born in East Los Angeles, California on September 9, 1981, where he was
raised to be a strong-willed and loyal man.
He was not only a man, but a father, uncle, grandfather, and a devoted friend. He enjoyed
football, fishing, quality time with loved ones, and a bit of gambling during March Madness.
Richard was also an amazing football player, shining at St. Paul High School in Santa Fe
Springs, California. He competed at Cerritos College, a Division 1 program at Kansas
University, and then transferred to Texas A&M Kingsville to continue his education while
playing. He shortly went back to St. Paul High School to coach and be an inspiration to many
players. Returning to Corpus Christi, Richard Estrella began working at the Naval Air Station,
where he became a leader and confidant to others.
Richard Estrella has rejoined his late mother and father, Frederick and Geraldine Estrella.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Sonia Rodriguez, his children, Richard H. Smith
III, Isabella and Sebastian Estrella, his brother, Adrian Estrella (Rachelle), numerous nieces and
nephews, a granddaughter, as well as many caring friends.
The family would like to thank everyone who has sent their prayers and condolences.
