

Rojelio “Roy” Ybanez, age 83, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Spohn Hospital surrounded by his family. He was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed. He was born on July 19, 1931 and raised in George West, Texas.
Roy retired at a young age after a career as master welder for Chicago Bridge and Iron and Forman for Baker Marina. As an entrepreneur at heart, Roy was talented in many trades, a mechanic who would rebuild vehicles, lawn mowers, power tools or anything that needed fixing, a carpenter who built the family home and renovated several properties and he dabbled in business ventures involving his love of horses. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, watching boxing, UFC and western movies, and spending time with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Guadalupe Ybanez; son, Raymundo “Ray” Ybanez. Roy is survived by his wife, married 60 years, Elodia Ybanez; daughters, Emelda (Delfino) Mendoza, Diana (David)Flores, Leti (Lupe) Avalos, Angela (Tom) Lahrman; eight grandchildren, Kendra, Charissa, Shoko, Aaron, Kimberly, Tom, Jacob and Jordan; a bunch of (17) great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sofia Bernal.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2015 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday June 23, 2015 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Esparza, Jordan Esparza, Thomas Avalos, Aaron Flores, Skinner Sturgis, and Danny Castilleja.
