Rosa Contreras De Leon, 85, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2020. She was born in Pettus, Texas on September 27, 1935. She was married to Regino De Leon Sr. on August 29, 1954. Rosa De Leon worked at West Oso Middle School Cafeteria. She was a member of the Guadalupanas at Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church and was an active member of the Senior Citizen Center.

Rosa is preceded in death by, Regino De Leon Sr.; her parents, Eugenio and Jesusa Contreras; her brother Eugenio Contreras; and her sister, Angelita Sandoval.

Rosa leaves her loving memories to her four sons, Regino (Grace) De Leon Jr., Roel De Leon, Rene (Sandy) De Leon, and Ricardo De Leon; her 2 daughters, Rachel (Jorge) Salinas, and Ruth (Felix) De Leon; her 12 grandchildren, Reggie De Leon, Rene De Leon Jr., Melissa Hester, April Bolin, Melinda Olson, Stephen Paniagua, Kristina De Leon, Marc De Leon, Ashley Martinez, Jason De Leon, and Anna Ortiz; and her 14 great-grandchildren.

Rosa De Leon’s priority in life was raising her six children to be strong and productive individuals with good moral ethics. Having grown up in poverty with limited opportunities herself, her focus became instilling in her children, the importance of developing quality standards and virtues. She guided them into becoming active in the community, playing a significant role at the church, and being efficient in school. It became our family normal.

Rosa later became a cafeteria employee at West Oso Middle School, where her two youngest children attended. After 25 more years with the district, she retired and was now able to enjoy more time with her grandchildren.

Rosa’s joy was watching her children growing up and developing into the best versions of themselves. Her favorite pastime was having family gatherings at her house. Our family loved helping her with gardening or making big meals.

Rosa loved finding unique or special gifts for each and every one. She was a stylish grandma, often buying a variety of pretty hats to wear and share with her granddaughters with fun outfits for pictures.

Her generosity and support for her family remained a constant purpose throughout her years.

Later in her life, as she struggled to endure Parkinson’s Disease, her children and her grandchildren were consistently at her bedside. Her family now guided and supported her as she transitioned into her new Godly World. She had taught us how.

Thanks, Momma, for devoting your life to us. We will always be with you.

Love,

Regino Jr., Raquel, Roel, Ruth, Rene, and Ricardo

“Baby Rey” with a joyful smile followed with a small pinch of my cheek. Didn’t matter how old I was... the cheek pinch was happening. I always enjoyed watching her and my grandma Angelita sit together. I always enjoyed when our families came together. Her children, my cousins I have such high respect and regard for. Just like her, they’re always around for a helping hand or encouraging words. To my familia, I send you my most sincere condolences. May Tia rest in comfort and eternal happiness.

Love Always

Baby Rey

I felt like I had a secret everyday. I knew the lunch lady! She always was bright and cheerful. It was like she watched over me, at least while I was in the cafeteria, because she was my neighbor. I met her way before school age.
Fast forward to adult years, she was a caring neighbor still. Babysitting my kids for an hour here and there.
You will be sorely missed, but I pray we will reunite in heaven and chat.
