He was born in Monthalia County, Texas on December 29, 1933. Rufus graduated from Solomon Coles High School and received his associate’s degree from Del Mar College in Radio and Television Repair.
He married Mathis M. Ervin in March 1958. Rufus worked at the Reynolds Aluminum Plant making aluminum products. He worked there for 33 years.
He was a member of Greater Shiloh COGIC and had a passion for the word of God. He was a scholar and teacher and loved fishing.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mathis M. Boyd; parents, Dora and C.T. Boyd; brothers, Willie and Lawrence Boyd and sisters, Ora Hill and Lois Vernel Boyd.
He is survived by his children: Priscilla Harris (Michael), Charles Boyd, Phillip Boyd, Sr. (Colette) and Sean Boyd. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He will be lovingly missed by his sister; Mrs. Doris James and his brother, Mr. Andrew Boyd, Sr.
Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, June 26, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
