

Sarah E. Cardiel passed away peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2012 surrounded by her beloved children and loving family. She would have celebrated her 86th birthday on Sunday, April 22, 2012. She served as the foundation for her family guiding them through their lives with her undeniable love and steadfast Catholic faith. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Born in Cuero, Texas to Prajedis Elizardo and Paula Cortez Elizardo, Sarah eventually grew up in Taft, Texas attending school and working there until she met and married Enrique R. Cardiel, her husband of 49 years who passed away in 2000. She was active in her children's PTA's and her parish church, Christ the King Catholic Church. Sarah and her late husband dedicated their lives to supporting their children and grandchildren in all of their academic or athletic endeavors never missing a game, performance, or recital.
She also extended her nurturing support to her nieces and nephews encouraging them with her faith and love. Her parents, her husband, Henry, and her siblings, Roberto Elizardo, Avelina (Lille) Elizardo, Guadalupe Sanchez, and Estella Garcia precede her in death.
Sarah is survived by her children: Lillian S. Cardiel, John Henry Cardiel, Andrew (Cindy) Cardiel, Lucy Ella Cardiel and daughter-in-law, Cynthia Chavez; she is also survived by her grandchildren: Nicole (Tom) Vocke, Paul Andrew (Amy) Cardiel, Candace (Chad) Debord, Angela Marie (Travis) Berry, and Amanda Renee (Tommy) Thompson; she also welcomed her great-grandchildren: Reid Elizabeth and Aiden Thomas Vocke, Paige Elise Cardiel, Cruz Allen Debord, Emily Marisha and Frances Ann Thompson, and Benjamin Allen Berry; she also looked forward to the birth of her newest great-grandchildren: Baby Cardiel, Baby DeBord, and Baby Berry; she is also survived by her siblings: Prajedis (Oralia) Elizardo Jr., of Taft, Texas and Elizabeth (Santos) Padilla of Dallas, Texas as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude Angel Bright Home Health and Hospice for their unflagging support, and Ms. Diana Valdez, Sarah's provider for her dedicated service in caring for our mother.
A rosary will be held at Memory Gardens at 7:00 P.M., on Monday, April 23, 2012.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at St. Phillips Catholic Church with Father Hahn officiating.
Final entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Mausoleum alongside her husband.
Pallbearers will be her grandson: Paul Andrew Cardiel, her granddaughters' husbands, Thomas Vocke, Chad Debord, Travis Berry, Tommy Thompson, and her nephew Gaspar Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons: Aidan Thomas Vocke, Cruz Allen Debord, and Benjamin Allen Berry.
